The R&D Journal is a peer reviewed engineering science journal. The journal covers the full spectrum of mechanical engineering research, both academic and industrial, with an emphasis on Southern African engineering and is supported by leading South African academics and has one of its aims to promote such research and its proponents in a constructive manner.

Original Research type articles with abstracts and keywords are published in English.

The journal publishes 1 volume per annum on a rolling publication basis.

This is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.

Ownership of copyright of work published remains with the authors, and published in open access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.

All papers will be reviewed by more than one referee whose proposed amendments, if any, will be conveyed to the author.
Authors must nominate at least two referees that the editor may ask to review the paper.
It remains the prerogative of the editor to appoint referees and nominated persons will not necessarily be invited to participate in the review process. Full contact details of nominated referees must be supplied. Papers accepted for publication may/will be subject to editorial correction.
