ABOUT THE JOURNAL

 

Basic Information

The African Journal of Information and Communication (AJIC) is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open access journal published by the LINK Centre, University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), Johannesburg. AJIC's content focuses on dimensions of digital, electronic and physical ecosystems that facilitate information, communication, innovation and transformation in African settings and in the broader Global South. AJIC's approach to open access corresponds to the objectives of the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities and the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) Statement on Open Access to Research PublicationsAJIC does not impose article processing charges (APCs) on its contributors.

The journal publishes twice per year, in May/June and November/December.

All AJIC articles are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. Contributors whose submissions are published in AJIC are thus required to grant AJIC's publisher—LINK Centre, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg—a non-exclusive licence to publish their contributions in AJIC under the CC BY 4.0. Contributors retain the copyrights and publishing rights in their contributions without restriction. 

 

Peer Review

 

Research Articles and Review Articles provisionally selected for publication by the Corresponding Editor—with assistance where necessary from internal reviewers (i.e., the Publishing Editor and members of the Editorial Advisory Board)—are peer-reviewed “double-blind” by referees selected by the Corresponding Editor from among subject matter experts. Final selection for publication is contingent upon referee approval and author implementation of any changes requested in the double-blind peer review feedback.

Critical Interventions and other contributions (Publication Reviews, Correspondence, News, Obituaries, Guest Editor Introductions) provisionally selected for publication by the Corresponding Editor are peer-reviewed by at least one internal reviewer. Final selection for publication is contingent upon reviewer approval and author implementation of any changes requested by the internal reviewer(s).
