In the version of the article initially published, Maqoma, W.P., 2020, 'In defence of communitarianism philosophy: The contribution of moderate communitarianism to the formation of an African identity', Verbum et Ecclesia 41(1), a1984. https://doi.org/10.4102/ve.v41i1.1984, on page 1, the first sentence of the Introduction section was given incorrectly. The correct wording should be 'do not throw out the baby with the bathwater' instead of 'do not throw out the baby with the bathwater with the Baby'.

The first paragraph under the Introduction section is updated as follows:

Introduction

It has become axiomatic to say, 'do not throw out the baby with the bathwater', particularly within the discussion of ideas - whether to integrate or refute old or new ideas within the philosophical landscape, perhaps also the theological landscape, as the theological discipline is important for understanding identity, even African identity. Bediako (1999:1-10), in his book, Theology and Identity, noted that the question of identity is key to understanding the concerns of Christian theology in modern Africa as was the case in the 2nd century AD.

This correction does not alter the study's findings of significance or overall interpretation of the study's results. The publisher apologises for any inconvenience caused.
