Obituary

 

 

 

Andrew Burger Murray, BSc, MB ChB, FRCP (Edin), FRCP (Canada), 18 January 1927 - 24 June 2018

Andrew Murray graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1951. He went to London and Edinburgh for 4 years of house physician and registrar training, and then returned to complete his training as a specialist at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in Cape Town when it opened in 1956. He was appointed consultant paediatrician to Karl Bremer Hospital in Cape Town in 1959, and in 1961 went to the Boston Children's Hospital for a Fellowship in Paediatric Allergy.

In 1962 he moved to Canada, and subsequently became professor of paediatrics and head of the Allergy Division at British Columbia Children's Hospital. After retirement in 1992 he attended art school. He continued to paint, hike and kayak for many years.

He is survived by his wife Molly, a daughter, a son and five grandchildren.
