The editorial board... a new structure

Evans, WG

"The Editorial Board shall serve as a source of expert advice in all matters pertaining to the South African Dental Journal,"

That is the central mandate handed to the newly confirmed Editorial Board of the South African Dental Journal, In order to meet that mandate the members have been appointed by the Education Committee to represent a wide range of interests, experience and skills.

The new, and enlarged, Board takes over from a team who have loyally served the Association for some years, and the contributions of those members are sincerely acknowledged, although these were almost entirely in their individual capacities, for the Board itself had not met for a considerable time, Their advice and guidance has been invaluable.

Membership of the new Board will be over a period of two or three years, the intention being to ensure continuity whilst also securing new ideas from incoming members.

It is has been heartening to experience the enthusiasm with which new members have accepted their role, Innovative concepts and new approaches are already being aired and the pages of the Journal will soon reflect that interest and commitment.

Professor Jules Kieser had accepted nomination as an International Member and it has been a tremendous sadness to learn of his untimely passing, Our sincere condolences to all his family.

Whilst formal membership has been confirmed, and the full list appears on the front page of the Journal, provision is made for the co-option of additional members for specific fields or special issues.

The Board looks forward to serving the interests of all members of the Association and will be pleased to receive comment, advice and recommendations, The members will take most seriously the dictates of that central mandate.
