Abstract

VAN WYK, Amie (JH). Discourse on hermeneutics: A discussion with three reformational South African theologians. STJ [online]. 2020, vol.6, n.3, pp.111-140. ISSN 2413-9467.  http://dx.doi.org/10.17570/stj.2020.v6n3.a3.

In this article some introductory remarks are made on hermeneutics and subsequently the author critically investigates - for the sake of discussion - three hermeneutical models set up by three theologians from three Afrikaans reformed sister churches, namely Dirkie Smit, Gert Malan and Gerrie Snyman. In all three instances it is apparent what a big role hermeneutics plays - and should play - in the interpretation of Scripture. Since it is particularly topical and significant, one theme in theology namely Christology, is subjected to a more thorough investigation. Finally, the author proposes some guidelines which in his opinion could contribute to a better understanding of Scripture.
