Abstract

ROSTAMI, Amin; MAHBOUBIFAR, Marjan  and  KHAZAEI, Ardeshir. N,N'-dibromo-N,N'- 1,2-ethanediylbis(benzenesulphonamide) (BNBBS): A safe, neutral and efficient reagent for the oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to corresponding carbonyl compounds under mild conditions. S.Afr.j.chem. (Online) [online]. 2008, vol.61, pp.09-12. ISSN 1996-840X.

Efficient oxidation of various types of structurally diverse alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compounds can be carried out with N, N,-dibromo-N, N,-1,2-ethanediylbis(benzenesulphonamide) in good to high yield of products in CH2Cl2 at room temperature. Primary (aliphatic, benzylic and allylic) alcohols are oxidized with no over-oxidation to carboxylic acids.

Keywords : Oxidation; alcohols; carbonyl compounds; N, N,-dibromo-N; N,-1,2-ethanediylbis (benzenesulphonamide).
