PILLAY, K; GONZALEZ, V and RANGAKA, T. A case of Amyand's hernia in a preterm infant. S. Afr. j. surg. [online]. 2018, vol.56, n.3, pp.30-32. ISSN 2078-5151. http://dx.doi.org/10.17159/2078-5151/2018/v56n3a2463.
: The findings of a normal or inflamed appendix in a hernia sac is a rare finding intraoperatively. It is referred to as an Amyand's hernia, named after Claudius Amyand who first described it in 1735. We present a case of a 7-week-old male, born prematurely at 32 weeks' gestation, who presented clinically with an incarcerated right inguinal hernia. Intra-operative findings revealed an inflamed and ruptured appendix in the hernia sac. An appendectomy and herniotomy was performed with good results.
