2017 is nearly halfway, and it is a pleasure to publish our first edition of the year. As last year, we plan again 3 standard editions, and then also a special edition with selected articles from associated local conferences.

This edition:

• has a total of 16 articles, with 75% from authors with South African connections and the balance from international authors,

• it covers a diverse number of topics that once again shows us how flexible our discipline is with applications in Manufacturing, Electricity Supply, Project Management, Health Care, Agriculture etc,

• an interesting trend to observe is how System Dynamics is more often used as an analysis tool, and,

• "Lean" is also becoming a dominant topic in this edition.
