The South African Journal of Psychiatry (SAJP) began in 1994 with the aim of providing a scientific mouthpiece and resource base for psychiatry in South Africa by which psychiatric practice, research and education may be advanced.

The journal's area of interest is in the Medical Sciences, focusing particularly on Psychiatry and Neurology.

Subjects covered are Psychology, Pathology, Psychiatry and Mental Health

The publication language for both articles and abstracts is English.

Journals are published quarterly (1 volume comprising 4 issues per annum).

The abbreviated key title is S. Afr. j. psyc..
