INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Journal Scope

The African Journal of Gender and Religion (AJGR) aims to publish papers from social science and theological disciplines or related fields of inquiry, which provide critical and creative perspectives at the intersections of gender, religion, and theology in Africa.

Particular areas of interest include gendered analyses of religion and theology; feminist and decolonial epistemology; methodological innovations in pedagogy and research; theological and ethical reflection on social transformation; gendered significance of new religious movements and African–initiated forms of religion; interfaith solidarity; peace–making and reconciliation; normative and non–normative sexualities; and queer politics.

AJGR is an African journal and seeks to encourage authors to reflect on Africa as context, concept, and theory. Yet, the journal is equally welcoming of international contributions engaging with a variety of social and geographic contexts.

Editorial Guidelines

It is expected that submissions will contribute new and original knowledge to the subject/theme that is being addressed. Hence:

  • In addition to the abstract provided, please ensure that in the introduction you present your argument in such a way that the unique contribution you seek to make to the debate in that particular field of scholarship is made clear.
  • It is essential to foreground both a central question and a gendered theoretical/conceptual approach and methodology for approaching that question.

It is only then that the Editors will consider your article for the process of double–blind peer review.
As a journal accredited with the South African Department of Higher Education and Training, AJGR will only accept and publish articles which have gone through a rigorous review process.
The peer reviewers will then advise the editorial panel on the suitability of particular articles for AJGR publication.

The types of articles accepted for publication include Original articles, Book reviews, Praxis Articles, Roundtable Discussions.
